When Earth is lost, can redemption spark
a new beginning on Mars?
About the Show
Hypothesis is a sci-fi rock opera about a brilliant but guilt-ridden scientist who created the technology that destroyed Earth. As humanity’s last survivors cling to life aboard rival space stations, he leads a daring mission to terraform Mars and give them a second chance—if old rivalries and buried secrets don’t doom them first.
Hypothesis received a concert version in 2000 and a workshop production in 2001.
Staging Approach
The workshop production blended live action, video projection, and a live rock band on stage, allowing a dynamic interplay between music, visual storytelling, and performance. This layered presentation remains a core element of Hypothesis as it evolves into its next phase.
The Original 2001 Cast & Crew
The original 2001 Hypothesis workshop at Camden County College featured Bryan Pitt as Levi, Sheila Addis as Thes, Christine C.S. Walker as Ru, Michael Brix as Mac, Timothy Brodwater as Dan, BJ Johnson as Jud, and Breton Bonnette as Job. The chorus included Amanda Almond, Paige Bradley, Harmony Ingraham, Matthew Maldonado, Erica Minuti, Lynell Robinson, and Mark Snyder. The live band brought the score to life with Joe Davis and Mark Snyder on guitars, Bryan Haines on bass, Chad Bacho on drums and percussion, William Walker on lead keyboard, and Giovanni Cipolla on keyboard, violin, and mandolin. The production featured book, music, and lyrics by Giovanni Cipolla and Kevin A. Snyder, and was produced by Jenn Cipolla with Crazy Summer Productions.
History & Future
Hypothesis workshopped in 2001, just months before the world changed on September 11th. The project’s momentum paused in the wake of that devastation, and it has remained in quiet orbit ever since. Whether Hypothesis will find a new stage in the future remains uncertain, but the questions it asks—about survival, redemption, and hope after destruction—still resonate, waiting for the right moment to be heard again.
